GETTING STARTED & ACCESS

How to complete initial onboarding

Choosing nickname, photo, date of birth, and initial interests

Onboarding on bananatribe is a fast and seamless process, designed in high-contrast light mode to ensure maximum readability without distractions or unnecessary banners. In just a few steps, you define who you are, configure your local area, and pick the topics you want to follow.

Step 1: Identity & security requirements (during registration)

Before accessing any channels, set up your basic identity:

1. Choose a nickname (@yournick): - This is your unique public identifier across the entire app (chats, marketplace, events, and invite links). - Length between 3 and 24 characters (letters, numbers, hyphens -, or underscores _). - A real-time green checkmark instantly confirms that your nickname is available. - Tip: choose a memorable name, as it will also form your personal referral link for friends (?ref=yournick).

2. Date of birth (compliance requirement): - To ensure community safety and comply with European and Spanish regulations (LOPD-GDD), access is restricted to individuals at least 14 years old. - Enter your date of birth in the day/month/year format (DD/MM/YYYY). - ⚠️ Important note: the date of birth cannot be edited after confirmation to prevent circumventing age requirements. Make sure it is entered correctly before continuing.

3. SMS verification: - By confirming the 6-digit code sent to your mobile phone, your profile is created and you immediately enter the setup wizard.

Step 2: Your initial interests & categories

Once your SMS is verified, you will land on the first onboarding step: “What are you interested in?”.

1. Topic categories: - You will see a list of interest areas arranged alphabetically and labeled with emoji icons (e.g., 🏆 Sports, 🏛️ Culture, 🌲 Nature, 🎭 Entertainment, 🍕 Food & Drink, 🎮 Gaming). - Tap the categories that reflect your passions: each selected category lights up with an accent color and a checkmark. - Selecting a category automatically subscribes you to related discussions and events in your area.

2. The special ☠️ #Unfiltered channel: - At the bottom of the list, you will find a special channel for spontaneous and ephemeral conversations. - If you select it, a brief info card with community guidelines will appear; confirming your acceptance adds the channel to your interests.

3. Tap the “Continue” button at the bottom right to move to the next step.

Step 3: Set your reference area

To display people, events, and news near you, the app needs to know which neighborhood you live in or regularly spend time in:

1. Postal code (ZIP): enter your postal code (e.g., 35100, 35001, etc.). 2. Radius (in km): use the slider to choose how far you want your radius of interest to extend around home (e.g., 5 km, 10 km, 25 km). 3. Save the area: this will be your first Active Area. You can always pause it or add more areas (like work or a vacation home) in your settings. 4. Tap the “Join the tribe” button.

Step 4: Welcome & confetti celebration 🎉

Once the guided setup is complete, you land straight on the bananatribe Home screen:

- A festive full-screen confetti effect officially welcomes you to the community. - Celebration card “🎉 Congratulations [Nickname]! 🎉”: - If you are among the first 100 members to join the app, you automatically receive the prestigious historic “Founding Member” badge (+100 points)! - A quick summary highlights your first steps: invite your first friends, share feedback or ideas with the team, and break the ice by posting your first message in your favorite channel.

Step 5: Upload an avatar photo & complete your profile (bonus points!)

To make your profile 100% complete and immediately climb the Triber rankings:

1. Tap the avatar/user icon in the top right header and select “Profile” (👤). 2. Upload an avatar photo: - Tap the photo circle: take a selfie directly with your phone or upload a picture from your gallery. - The image is automatically optimized and compressed to load swiftly on any connection. 3. Introduce yourself (Bio): write a couple of lines in the “About me” tab about what you enjoy doing or your projects in the area. 4. Triber advantage: uploading a photo and filling out your profile unlocks instant points, boosting you from New Triber to Active Triber!
