How to register and verify your phone number via SMS

Explanation of the 6-digit code and 14-year age limit

Signing up on bananatribe requires very little information and mobile phone verification via SMS. This measure ensures a genuine community protected against bots and fake profiles, while maintaining total privacy (your phone number will never be visible to other members of the tribe).

Step 1: Access the Registration Screen

1. Open the app and tap the "Register" button (or access via the top-right menu by tapping your avatar and then "Log in"). 2. If you are on the login screen, select the "Create an account" tab (or Register). 3. (Optional) If you received an invite link from a friend, the app will automatically recognize your invitation and award points to both of you once registration is complete.

Step 2: Fill in your primary details

In this first step, enter the details required to create your basic profile:

1. Nickname (@username): - This is your unique public identifier within the tribe. - Length: between 3 and 24 characters (letters, numbers, hyphens, or underscores). - A real-time green indicator will immediately show whether the chosen name is available or already in use by another member.

2. Date of birth: - Security requirement and age limit: by law (European regulations and Spanish LOPD-GDD), access to the community is restricted to individuals at least 14 years of age. - If a date indicating an age under 14 is entered, registration is blocked to protect the minor. - ⚠️ Note: for security and legal reasons, the date of birth cannot be edited later; make sure to enter it correctly.

3. Email: - Your personal email address for account recovery and official service updates.

4. Password: - Minimum 8 characters. - A convenient visual checklist verifies in real time the presence of at least one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, one special character, and one number. - You can tap the eye icon to show or hide the password you enter.

Tap the "Continue" button to proceed to phone verification.

Step 3: Request the SMS verification code

1. Select the international dialing code: choose your phone number's country code (e.g., +34 for Spain and the Canary Islands, +39 for Italy, +44 for the UK, etc.). 2. Enter your mobile phone number in the adjacent box. 3. Tap the "Send SMS code" button. 4. You will receive an official SMS message within seconds containing a 6-digit numerical code. Sometimes, delivery may take a few minutes. As this is an external carrier service, we unfortunately have no direct control over dispatch and transit times.

SMS code security rules: - Validity: the code is valid for 10 minutes. - Attempts: you have a maximum of 5 entry attempts. - Resend: to prevent accidental rapid re-sending, a 60-second countdown will indicate when you can request a new code. - Daily anti-abuse limit: maximum 5 SMS requests per day for each phone number.

Step 4: Enter the code and confirm registration

1. Type the 6-digit code received via SMS. 2. Tap "Confirm code" (or Verify). 3. As soon as the code is verified: - Your account is created instantly, and the system automatically logs you in. - You will immediately receive welcome points for verifying your number. - If you signed up via a friend's referral link, the invitation is recorded and linked. - You will be redirected straight to the Onboarding screen to complete your profile setup (avatar picture, bio, and favorite channels).

Troubleshooting & FAQ

- SMS not received: check that you selected the correct country code and that your phone has mobile cellular reception. Wait for the 60-second safety cooldown before tapping "Resend". Sometimes, delivery may take a few minutes. As this is an external carrier service, we unfortunately have no direct control over dispatch times. - Number already registered: a mobile phone number can only be associated with one account. If you created a profile in the past, return to the login screen and use the password recovery option with your email. - Under 14 years old: the system does not allow registration for minors under the age of 14 in compliance with applicable data protection laws.
