bananatribe is an international app designed for local communities across the Canary Islands, where local residents and expats of various nationalities live side by side. The interface adapts to your native language with full translations and instant flag recognition.
You can change the language in two different ways, depending on whether you are already logged in or browsing as a guest.
Method 1: If you are not logged in (Guest or first visit)
When you land on the app for the first time without logging in:
1. Automatic detection: the app automatically detects the language set in your browser (phone or computer) and immediately launches in your language, displaying the corresponding flag at the top. 2. Quick switcher in the header: - Look at the top right of the app's main bar: in place of the "Search" magnifying glass icon, you will see a small circular flag (for example, the Italian 🇮🇹, Spanish 🇪🇸, or British 🇬🇧 flag). - Tap the flag: a drop-down menu will open displaying the list of available languages, each with its flag and name in its native language: - 🇮🇹 Italiano - 🇪🇸 Español - 🇬🇧 English - 🇫🇷 Français - 🇩🇪 Deutsch - Tap your desired language: the entire interface updates instantly, including menus, buttons, and the app logo.
Method 2: From your personal Profile (Registered user)
If you are logged into your account, your language preference is saved directly to your cloud profile, syncing automatically across every device where you use bananatribe:
1. Tap your avatar photo in the top right of the header. 2. Select the first option: Profile (👤). 3. In the left sidebar, tap the sliders icon: "Preferences" (🎛️). 4. The first option at the top is "Language": - Tap the selection box showing the current language and its flag. - Choose the new language from the drop-down list. 5. Automatic saving: the change is saved instantly to the database; there is no need to press any confirmation button.
What changes when you switch languages?
- Interface and system text: all menus, buttons, input forms, notifications, and labels are translated. - App logo: the bananatribe logo in the header also adapts to the selected language, maintaining the appropriate graphic version for light or dark mode. - Date and time formats: event dates and message timestamps adjust to your region's conventions.
Special feature: "Translate messages automatically"
Right below the language selector in the Preferences tab, you will find the Translate automatically option:
- How it works: when a neighbor writes a chat message in a language different from yours (for example, in Spanish or English), bananatribe can display the translation directly in the language you selected in your profile. - If you prefer reading messages in the original language they were written in, simply turn off the toggle.
