How to set emergency contacts and medical data for SOS

Privacy explanation and visibility exclusively during emergencies

The Medical Card & SOS feature on bananatribe is designed as a true digital lifesaver (modeled on the international I.C.E. – In Case of Emergency standard). It is especially valuable in the Canary Islands if you go hiking, trekking, do outdoor sports, or face unexpected health situations.

Step 1: How to access the Medical Data section

1. Tap your avatar photo in the top right of the header. 2. Select the first option: Profile (👤). 3. In the vertical icon bar on the left, tap the icon with the heart and heartbeat (💓 Emergency data).

Step 2: Privacy and visibility control

At the top of the screen, you will find the most important toggle:

- "Show my medical card in SOS": - Active (ON): in case of rescue, anyone who opens the SOS section can view your essential medical details and contacts to call. - Disabled (OFF): data remains saved in your profile but is completely hidden and protected, without appearing on the emergency card.

🔒 Guaranteed privacy: this information is sensitive and personal. It never appears on your public profile, in chats, or on the marketplace. It is accessed solely and exclusively within the emergency screen.

Step 3: Fill in key medical details

All fields are optional; enter only the information you feel comfortable sharing:

- Blood type: select your group from the drop-down menu (O+, O-, A+, A-, B+, B-, AB+, AB-). - Allergies: list severe allergies to medications (e.g., penicillin), foods, insect stings, or latex. - Current medications: chronic therapies or vital medications taken regularly. - Conditions / Medical history: known medical conditions critical for first responders (e.g., diabetes, epilepsy, asthma, heart conditions). - Height and Weight: helpful for medical personnel to accurately dose emergency medications. - Pregnancy: if applicable, select the date of your last period: the app will automatically calculate the updated weeks of pregnancy. - Organ donor: toggle the switch to record your consent. - Pacemaker / Implants / Prostheses: crucial information before using defibrillators or diagnostic imaging. - Primary care physician: doctor's name and phone number for clinical consultations. - Health insurance number: European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), social security number, or private travel policy. - Notes: any other helpful first-aid information.

When finished, tap the "Save" button to store your medical card.

Step 4: Add Emergency Contacts (I.C.E.)

Directly below the medical card, you can add trusted people to notify if needed:

1. Name: enter the person's full name (e.g., Elena Rossi). 2. Phone: type the full number with international country code (e.g., +34... or +44...). 3. Relationship: select the relationship from the menu (Spouse, Partner, Child, Parent, Sibling, Friend, Doctor, Other). 4. Tap the "+ Add contact" button.

You can add multiple contacts. To remove a saved contact at any time, tap the trash can icon (🗑️) next to their name.

Step 5: How the Card looks during an emergency

When you or a first responder taps the red 🚨 SOS button at the top of the app (or visits the emergency services map):

1. The "SOS Card" (or My medical card) button appears in the header. 2. Tapping it opens a high-contrast modal with: - Full name and exact age (automatically calculated from date of birth). - Blood type highlighted in large red lettering. - A clear list of allergies, medical conditions, medications, and vital notes. - Your contact list with a prominent red "Call" button: a single tap dials immediately without having to search through address books.
