bananatribe offers two visual modes designed specifically for every situation:
- ☀️ Light Theme: ideal for outdoor use under the Canary Islands sun, offering maximum readability. - 🌙 Dark Theme: ideal for evening or low-light environments, reducing eye strain and saving battery on OLED screens.
In both modes, the brand's signature banana yellow color is balanced with maximum contrast for text, icons, and buttons.
You can switch themes in two ways: via the shortcut in the avatar menu (single tap) or from your Profile preferences.
Method 1: Quick switch via the Avatar Menu (in 1 second)
This is the fastest method and is always accessible from any screen in the app:
1. Tap your avatar photo (or generic user icon) in the top right of the header. 2. In the drop-down menu, locate "Change theme" with the Sun ☀️ or Moon 🌙 icon: - If you are logged in: this appears as the second-to-last option, right before Log out. - If browsing as a Guest: this appears as the last option, right after Log in and Guest mode. 3. Tap "Change theme": the app instantly switches between light and dark modes (or vice versa) without reloading the page. The icon automatically updates to show the opposite symbol.
Method 2: From the Profile "Preferences" tab
If you want to set and save your choice permanently in your cloud profile:
1. Tap your avatar photo in the top right → select Profile (👤). 2. In the left sidebar tabs, tap the sliders icon: "Preferences" (🎛️). 3. Scroll down to the "Theme" section: - You will find a dual-button toggle: Light | Dark. - Tap the mode you prefer. 4. Automatic saving: if logged in, your preference is saved to your user profile and will apply automatically every time you log in from any computer, tablet, or smartphone.
What adjusts automatically with the theme?
- The bananatribe Logo: the app header switches logo versions on the fly, ensuring optimal clarity on both white and dark backgrounds while maintaining your selected language. - Maps and cards: background colors for chat cards, marketplace items, events, Canarias7 news, and profile details update to ensure the best contrast. - Menu icon: in dark mode, you will see the Sun icon (to return to light mode); in light mode, you will see the Moon icon (to switch to dark mode).
💡 Note on Onboarding: during registration and initial setup, the app always uses the light theme to ensure maximum legibility for form fields and safety rules. Once on the Home screen, you can switch to dark mode at any time.
